Kanye said: Rob gave me this bracelet, ‘What Would Jesus Do.’ I’m a Christian and it’s to let people know that’s what’s on my mind. That’s what’s important to me that I grow and walk and raise my family with Christian values. I don’t know if that’s right to say on TV.
He met Kim when she was Brandy’s assistant
Kanye said: I’m trying to remember if the first time we met was her being in the studio when she was Brandy’s assistant and she brought us something to drink that you can’t drink on daytime TV. We were in the studio so that’s okay. It might have been when we were doing Brandy’s video and remember asking my manager, ‘Who is that girl right there?,’ and he’s like, ‘Oh, you mean Kim?’
Kanye said: I remember seeing a picture of her. I think she was in Australia with Paris Hilton or something and reading her name and telling my friends, ‘Have you ever seen Kim Kar-duh-shaun?’
I remember I had this TV show that I was working on that had puppets around it like a modern day Jim Henson type vibe because I really get into creative ideas like this. We were doing this skit where I was playing a Star Wars character and I wanted her to be Princess Leia because she was my dream girl. So she came to the show and I remember being so nervous around her and so in awe that she was actually in front of me. We shot the scene and I was able to just start talking to her. I was in love with her before I ever got to talk to her.
[Jokes] There were times that I wasn’t with her, that I wanted to be with her, so I thought about taking up sports.
I just dreamed about being next to her and…I don’t know. I don’t want to start jumping up and down on the couch or anything. *smiles*

He feels as though it is challenging to find love now that he’s famous
Kanye said: Of course being in the limelight you have to have a match. Someone that’s equally yoked. It’s difficult because there’s people that you would date, that would date you to maybe be more famous, or there’s people who would want you to be less famous than you were and just not accept who you were in life.
Kim may have saved his life
Kanye said: I would be on the phone with her and even at my lowest moments she’d give me energy and remind me of who I was and I needed that support at all times. [...]Since my mom passed it’s been very difficult and hard to find love. It’s hard for anyone to find love, especially if you’re in a position of being famous or as they call me now, ‘polarizing.’
After I lost my mother, there were times I felt like I would put my life at risk. I felt like sometimes I didn’t have something to live for, and now I have two really special people to live for, a whole family to live for, a whole world to live for.
He likes the idea of sweeping someone off of their feet
Kanye said: I’m definitely romantic because I’m an artist. I like surprises. I love for someone to be surprised. I like to sweep someone off of their feet. [...]We went to Rome. We went to Florence, and we went to Rimini, Italy. A friend of mine named Guiseppe Zanotti has a factory, a shoe factory, out there. I brought her there and I sat there with Zanotti and we sketched out shoes for her that Zanotti made from scratch and then sent them to her in two weeks. So she got to pick out her own Zanotti’s at the factory.
He was willing to lose his private life for Kim
Kanye said: That shows you how much I love her. I can have people saying this is going to damage your credibility as an artist or a designer, and I say I don’t care, I love this woman. When the paparazzi surround you — people know you don’t like paparazzi [and they say,] ‘Why would you be with this person?’ I’m being with this person because I love this person, and she’s worth it to me. My grandfather just passed and his whole thing, it was never about money. It was never about popularity. His whole thing was joy and having joy in his life. She’s my joy and she brought my new joy into the world. There’s no paparazzi and there’s no blog comment that’s going to take that joy from me.
He’s embarrassed that he can not work a car seat [This is actually really cute!!!]
Kanye said: Of course a big thing that plagues us is the paparazzi chasing a five-year-old around and screaming at them. For me as a dad, I’m supposed to be this musical genius but I really can’t work the car seat that well. I’m embarrassed when I’m even in front of my girl and I can’t work the car seat. So I think, what if I can’t work the car seat and then let’s add on top of that 20 grown men screaming at me while I’m in front of my child and my girl. And then taking photos, and then taking it and putting it on 20 media outlets, and then 20 million Americans screaming at me, ‘You don’t know! You’re supposed to be a genius! You don’t know how to work the car seat!’ Then I wake up in a cold sweat and I run outside and I’m working on how to work the car seat at 3a.m. in the morning.
If you think you have enough things to deal with and learn as a new parent and you add that layer [the paparazzi] on top of it, it becomes really intense.
He feels as though the paparazzi are bullies
Kanye said: It’s hard to smile when the people are around you only to make money off of you. If you’re around people who are only there to make money off of you, you already feel like these aren’t your friends. If you’re around your friends, your friends make you smile. Think about high school. If you were around someone everyday to take your money, it’s almost worst when they saw something positive. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen me say to the paparazzi, ‘Don’t talk to me.’ It’s really more patronizing than anything. You get to the point where you feel like you can follow me to my house and you can photograph the front of my house and post it online? At a certain point there’s just boundaries that need to be set. I’m going to talk to the mayor of L.A. I’m going to talk to the mayor of New York about zoning. I should be able to drive my daughter to school without 20 people putting 20 other people in danger.l
People need to realize I’m just a human being even though they don’t relate to photographers following you around. Think about when you were in school and you have a bully following you around. Our lives become a whole strategy on how to not be seen by the paparazzi. People are like, ‘He’s not smiling.’ The thing that makes me more happy than anything is to not see them, so if you see them, obviously I’m not going to smile. It becomes an emotional bully. Someone taunting you as you’re getting on an airplane or taunting you as you’re going to get yogurt. People asking you questions. When I was young, every time I saw that, was when someone was on trial for murder. You didn’t see that because someone went to go get yogurt.
He’s growing closer to Kim Kardashian now that she’s taken time off
Kanye said: I’m happy that she’s able to take this time off because with her schedule with shooting the show and having to show up at events, she just never had time for herself. She wasn’t gonna take that time for herself because she felt like she needed to go and follow her career while she had this opportunity and everything. Then God knocked on our door and said you gotta slow down right now. It really brought us closer because there’s someone more important to us than us for the first time.
He adores Kris Jenner despite what’s written in the press
Kanye said: I think people feel that somehow me and my girlfriend’s mother are of different brands in a way. It’s not about anybody being at odds. It’s about us all helping each other and improving each other because I might be one of the only guys in the world who knows how to pick out a pair of shoes for a girl, but I have improvements that I need to make as just a human being. Kanye said: It’s interesting. Just as a creative guy I would have my apartment in New York and just be a bachelor. The apartment was super minimal with one plant. Here, it’s like there’s something everywhere at all times. There’s noise at all times. It’s something where I wasn’t used to it and now when I’m out I try to get home early just to be around my family.
He’s flattered that Obama considers him the new “American Dream”
Kanye said: So Obama basically said we’re the new ‘American Dream.’ I think he was posing it as I was supposed to take it in a negative way, but I’m just happy that the president mentions me so often. Thank you very much Obama. I do think people should want to go on vacation or just want to travel because that’s what opens people’s minds. When I was in fifth grade, me and my mother went to China and we lived there for a year and I could speak Chinese. I can speak a little bit of it. It was because also my mom lived in an area that was mostly white and my dad stayed in Chicago where it was mostly black and also had gang activity. I had to learn how to navigate all of these worlds. So as Obama is talking about that, yes, they’re looking at what she’s wearing. They’re looking at where we’re going on vacation because this is the way we relate to this new information age. There will be more people getting passports and wanting to travel. When they hear “N—as in Paris” they’ll say, ‘I want to be a n—a in Paris.’
