ALIENS WORRY NGARA RESIDENTS FEARING INVASION BY M23 SOLDIERS FROM THE NEIGHBOURING DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (DRC).

RESIDENTS in Ngara District have raised a security concern at Rusumo on the Tanzania- Rwanda border, fearing invasion by M23 soldiers from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The residents told Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC) Fabian Massawe who toured the district early this week that a big number of aliens were entering the country through Rusumo border. They also accused some of the 'greedy' leaders who colluded with the aliens by hiding them and offering them portions of village land illegally.

They appealed for government intervention to enable them to get back their land. Jasson Elias (34) and Gahungu Minani (45), said more than 500 hectares of farmland which were owned privately, were secretly sold to the aliens. Mr Massawe promised that the government would make a follow-up and give them his response in a short time.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Immigration Department at Rusumo, Samwel Makirane, informed the RC that a total of 164 illegal immigrants from Rwanda were rounded up in Ngara District between February and April, this year.

He noted that between 5,000 and 6,000 motor vehicles crossed to and from Rwanda each month, providing a loophole to illegal immigrants to penetrate easily. Mr Massawe directed leaders and residents in Ngara District to cooperate by exposing the illegal immigrants. He was in Ngara District to inspect development projects.
